3rd International Symposium on the Acoustics of Ancient Theatres (SAAT 2026)

Invitation letter

Dear colleagues,

On behalf of the Spanish Acoustical Society (SEA) and the EAA Technical Committee on Room and Building Acoustics, it is our great pleasure to warmly invite you to the 3rd International Symposium on the Acoustics of Ancient Theatres (SAAT 2026), which will take place at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Spain, from 25 to 28 October 2026. This symposium is organized in collaboration with the Acoustical Society of Italy (AIA) and the Hellenic Institute of Acoustics (HELINA).

SAAT 2026 will bring together leading experts, researchers, and practitioners to present and discuss all aspects of the acoustics of ancient theatres and other culturally and historically significant landmarks, including innovative measurement systems, acoustic simulations, auralization methods, soundscapes, virtual reconstructions, and more.

The symposium will feature a rich technical programme with keynote presentations, oral and poster sessions, and opportunities for in-depth discussions and workshops. Participants will benefit from cutting-edge research insights, share experiences, and explore emerging methodologies in the study of acoustics of historical and culturally significant sites.

Cartagena, with its unique blend of historical charm and modern amenities, provides an inspiring setting for SAAT 2026. Participants will have the chance to visit the Roman Theater of Cartagena, a key part of the city’s cultural heritage, bringing the symposium’s discussions to life.

Combined with its Mediterranean landscapes and welcoming atmosphere, Cartagena offers an ideal environment for both scholarly engagement and social interactions, ensuring an enriching experience for all attendees.

We are confident that SAAT 2026 will foster stimulating scientific discussions, encourage collaboration across international communities, and provide a vibrant setting for building lasting professional connections.

We very much look forward to welcoming you to Cartagena for an inspiring, informative, and memorable symposium.

Sincerely,

Mélanie Nolan Chair, EAA Technical Committee on Room & Building Acoustics
Antonio Pedrero González President, Spanish Acoustical Society
